Glossy Abelia is used as an upright, evergreen landscape shrub in USDA Zones 5-9.  The flowers of Glossy Abelia are extremely fragrant and are grouped in clusters of 3-4 per bunch.  The branches of the Glossy Abelia are reddish brown in color with vertical spiraling. Glossy Abelia is in the Caprifoliaceae (Honeysuckle) family.

Growth & Care

Glossy Abelia enjoys fairly rich, moist but well drained soil in a full sun or lightly shaded location and has good drought tolerance.  Plants become thin and unattractive in the shade and do not flower. Plant Glossy Abelia every 4' - 6' to provide proper spacing.
Potential Problems
There are no major diseases that affect Glossy Abelia, however they can be attacked by either aphids, mites, root rot, leaf spot or  powdery mildew

Glossy Abelia is a cross between Abelia chinensis and Abelia uniflora.
